Starfleet always championed its exploratory role and generally drew in a large proportion of young idealistic candidates. However Starfleet corps of Engineers was a division which worked in the background, not often brought to the spotlight but pivotal to the maintenance of the fleet. Engineers also had a special relationship with Starfleet Merchant and Logistic arms which got them parts and supplies much quicker than there exploratory partners. Even if the Engineers were stuck slogging around in Daedalus Class ships.

I had another attempt at making a planet in 3ds max and this time they both came out a lot better than last time.

I always looked at it like this: The NX class introduced the saucer, the Daedalus class introduced the lower hull, then Starfleet refined and combined the two to create the Constitution class.
